We have two main types of conditionals:
1. Type I:
E.g: Nếu ngày mai trời không mưa, tôi sẽ đi đá bóng
If it does not rain tomorrow, I will go play football
IF = nếu
Trời mưa = it rains
E.g: Nếu bạn ở nhà, tôi cũng sẽ ở nhà
If you stay at home, I will also stay at home
As you can see, the first type of conditional is used when you want to refer to the probabilities in the future.
To conjugate the verb:
Si – clause: present simple
Main clause : future simple : sẽ + [verb]
(More about the verb tenses, see the lesson below)
2. Type II:
E.g : Nếu bạn học chăm chỉ hơn, bạn đã được điểm cao
(If you studied harder, you would have higher result)
In which :
chăm chỉ = hard-working
Điểm = results
Cao / thấp = high/low
The truth is he is not studying hard.
As you can see, the second type of conditional is used when you want to refer to the conditions that is contrary to what is happening in the present, something not real.
To conjugate the verb:
Si – clause: present simple
Main clause : past simple : đã + [verb]
(More about the verb tenses, see the lesson below)
